How does one transform a good cause into a great one? That was the challenge for Wild Blue as we assisted Golden House, a Green-Bay domestic abuse shelter and pro-bono client, earn more from their biggest annual fundraising event.
Wild Blue had long been a supporter of Golden House, with the public face of our commitment coming through in promotional help for their annual “Bikes & BBQ” poker-run fundraiser. Each year, the event raised from $15K to $20K, money essential to their annual operating budget. We thought they could do better.
Step one was to eliminate the “bikes” aspect and give the event a new name — Gold Ribbin’ BBQ. A new logo, radio spots and other promotions followed.
Second was to turn it from a small local cook-off to a powerful, nationally sanctioned BBQ event aligned with the Kansas City Barbecue Society (KCBS,) the world’s largest organization of barbeque and grilling enthusiasts, and the “Super Bowl” of BBQ.
Finally, we added competitive events, in which former Packers and other local celebrities competed with the general public.
The result? Increased attendance and a 600% increase in funds raised, in a single year.
